Knowsley-based dental implant centre Evodental is expanding following the opening of a second state of the art clinic in Heathrow to target the London market.

As one of the UK’s market leaders for dental implants, Evodental performs full jaw rehabilitation using implants as an alternative to failing conventional bridges, dentures or teeth.

Patients typically require this treatment as a result of severe tooth decay, gum disease, facial bone loss or damage caused through neglect, medical problems or accident.

Evodental uses cutting edge technology and biomaterials, and latest clinical techniques to treat patients. Facilities include a state-of-the-art laboratory in Huyton to design and create implant prosthetics, with the use of market leading 3D technology in the treatment plan and preparation stages to ensure the very best outcome for patients. This has allowed the development of the “1-Day Smile” procedure, where a full set of teeth can be implanted in just one day.

The company’s continuing expansion follows investment from Merseyside Special Investment Fund which now totals more than £1m.

The business was founded in 2008 by Dr R P Vijayanarayanan (known as Dr Vijay), clinical director and principal surgeon, working alongside brother Manoj (commercial and technology director), managing director Steve O’Brien and Professor Paul Coulthard, head of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Manchester University School of Dentistry, is clinical director for research and development. To support the expansion and with the help of MSIF, this team has recently been boosted with the appointments of finance director Paul Coburn and non-executive director Andrew Thirk a former director of Ultralase and current director of Age Partnership.

Managing director Steve O’Brien said: “We differ from most other clinics because we specifically focus on total jaw rehabilitation using implants and do not provide single implant therapy."

“The first clinic was set up in Merseyside because Dr Vijay always had practices around the area and went to university here. We have now built a world class facility and knowledge base in Liverpool with some tremendous staff which provides a fantastic platform from which to grow. Many of our enquiries come from London and the South East so it makes sense for us to have a presence in the capital to increase conversion rates and to further leverage off the Liverpool lab which will support both clinics. The additional work means that the London clinic will support growth here in Merseyside increasing turnover and creating jobs."

“Dental implants are accepted as the “gold standard” for the replacement of lost or failing teeth. Bad or no teeth completely alters the way you look and other people’s perception of you. It can be very damaging to confidence. We can change people’s lives by literally putting a smile on their faces."

“Since MSIF’s involvement in the business our sales have grown significantly. Sales in the current financial year are up 50 % from last year with a projected annual turnover in excess of £2 million, and we now employ 18 staff."

MSIF investment director Mark Borzomato said: “This is a great reflection on how a Liverpool based business with a fantastic reputation in its sector has grown, with MSIF support as well as funds, such that it is now capable of expansion beyond its local region and is able to compete in the highly competitive London marketplace. Dr Vijay is a leading expert in his field and is very passionate about what he does. Alongside his co-directors he forms part of an innovative and focused management team and the business is ideally placed to grow significantly further.”
