A 28 year old from Liverpool is turning her hobby into a business venture with backing from MSIF.
Louise Codman, a keen amateur football coach is opening a franchise of Little Kickers, a pre-school football academy in Wirral. Initial sites include Hoylake, Greasby and Wallasey and there are plans to open in additional venues in the area.
Established in 2002, Little Kickers operates 210 franchises with 1500 coaches in 16 countries and is seen as the world’s biggest and most successful pre-school football academy. It coaches children up to the age of 7 segmented into classes across 4 age groups.
The programmes are specifically designed to teach high quality football skills and also a number of pre-school learning concepts.
MSIF has provided a £9.8k loan to assist with start-up costs including the franchise fee and equipment.
Louise Codman said: “I love football. I coach a women’s team twice a week and my two young daughters are at Little Kickers in south Liverpool."
When I heard there was an opportunity to run the franchise in the Wirral area I jumped at the chance, this is a dream come true for me.
“I have already received lots of interest and many of the classes are nearly full."
“There are lots of opportunities to grow the business and I am looking at the possibility of running sessions in pre-schools and nurseries. I am also looking at taking on another franchise area locally."
“The loan from MSIF has been absolutely crucial to enable me to start my business and I am really grateful for the support they have provided."
“As well as helping me, the loan has meant that I have been able to employ 4 other people one of whom is another mum who hasn’t worked for 7 years.”
MSIF investment manager Steve Hitchen said: “The Little Kickers franchise is a widely known and respected brand and has a proven business model. Louise is a highly qualified coach and is extremely passionate about the sport and ensuring kids have the chance to learn new skills and play in a team."
“She has lots of ideas of how she can potentially expand in the future and I am very pleased that we have been able to support her through the Start Up Loans Programme."
The government-funded Start Up Loans Programme provides loans to assist with start-up costs as well as free mentoring support, and exclusive business offers from partners such as Regus, Paypal, eBay and Intuit.
