Lights, camera, action for Mersey film firm
28th July 2006
A Merseyside film company is set to capture a whole new audience, thanks to backing from Merseyside Special Investment Fund (MSIF).
Babyface Media, based in Waterloo, will use the funding to buy new equipment, including high definition cameras.
The company is owned by John Maxwell, and has worked on prestigious projects such as Charlie Brass and Damascus.
John says: “Liverpool is a wonderful place to work. There is so much talent here – technical and creative, as well as so many great locations for shooting. I think there is real potential to create a proper film industry community here and I like to think that we are doing our bit to make that happen.
“The funding from MSIF means that we can purchase new equipment – including high definition cameras, which will allow us to take Babyface to the next level.”
Babyface Media makes all kinds of film projects, from arthouse to training aids, and John is looking to increase the staff to 3 over the period of the loan.
They share premises with film makers Tubedale (set up by actor David Morrissey and brother Paul), and are developing a good working relationship with them.
The company has had a £5,000 package from MSIF’s Small Firms Fund, South Sefton Pot, in addition to a grant from South Sefton Partnership.
Carol Bolland, Investment Manager of the Small Firms Fund at MSIF, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Babyface Media. The company is a great example of a creative business which is thriving on Merseyside and deserves continued success.”
