MSIF Backing Gives Kickstart to Fitness Training Company

September 2006

A new Liverpool company specialising in training for aspiring fitness professionals has set up with backing from Merseyside Special Investment Fund (MSIF).

Former Liverpool football player, Brian McGorry has teamed up with co-directors Andrew Allen and Neil Thompson to launch Executive Fitness Careers with over £30,000 backing.

Hundreds of people of all ages from across the UK will be able to access the courses which are designed to lead to a wide range of qualifications in subjects including personal training, gym and group exercise instruction, nutrition and weight management as well as business and marketing. The company is based within one of the city’s newest and best equipped gyms, Executive Fitness Clinics in the Old Haymarket.

Director Andrew Allen said: "More and more people are realising that there are fantastic opportunities in the fitness industry and they know that if they invest in the right training, they can enjoy a rewarding and lucrative career. We are committed to providing the highest quality courses delivered by professionals in an ideal learning environment. Already we have had a lot of interest with a number of students enrolled already and are looking forward to helping hundreds more realise their ambitions and secure a job for life."

The courses typically last 11 weeks and are full-time although there is also a blended distance learning option for people with full time commitments. Practising personal trainers and professional sports scientists deliver the courses and all trainers are fully qualified lecturers and assessors.

Over five new jobs are expected to be created over the next two years and turnover is expected to reach £170,000

MSIF Investment Manager, Carol Bolland said: "Fitness is a big growth area and we expect there to be significant demand for the courses offered by Executive Fitness Careers. The team are experienced and the company deserves to do well. There are few training providers with this level of accreditation and we are pleased to be supporting this exciting venture which will transform many people’s futures."

Executive Fitness Careers is an official Central YMCA Qualifications accredited training provider. All the courses are recognised by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).
