SEED FUND BACKING BRINGS SOFTWARE FIRM TO LIVERPOOL
14th November 2006
A software company that has developed software tools for the easy and quick creation of 3D heads and faces for the video games, post production and web industries has moved to Liverpool with backing from Merseyside Special Investment Fund’s Liverpool Seed Fund.
The £27m Liverpool Seed Fund contributed £95,000 to support the commercialisation process for Genemation. The company has relocated to Liverpool Science Park from Manchester.
CEO John Bickley, previously of Psygnosis and PlayStation, says: “We are delighted to have moved to Merseyside. The backing and support from the Liverpool Seed Fund was crucial and we are looking forward to working closely with the Fund as we develop.”
Genemation currently specialises in two products called GenHead and GenCrowd. They give digital content creators the ability to quickly and easily generate realistic 3D heads for video games, web content and post-production. GenHead and GenCrowd's output works with industry-standard art/animation tools.
John added: “We will be looking to expand our product range, and also to further commercialise our current products. Another very exciting area is developing consumer products and applications for mobile and the web, particularly as so many people are now into social networking on sites such as MySpace and YouTube.”
Four staff are in place at the moment, but John hopes to take on more people as the business expands.
Darren Gowling, Investment Director of the Liverpool Seed Fund, said: “The gaming and digital art market is a very exciting sector, and Genemation have developed an innovative piece of software. We were pleased to support their commercialisation plan and to have brought the business to Merseyside.”
