Global Goals for Liverpool business

A Liverpool based executive search firm is going global, with backing from Merseyside Special Investment Fund (MSIF).

Alexander James Executive Search Ltd was launched last year, and has gone from strength to strength. It specialises in finding the right people for key roles within organisations, using extensive contacts, business knowledge, and client research.

With an impressive client list that already includes United Utilities, Vitafoam and Abal Engineering, Alexander James is now working for a property developer in Qatar. Previously, they have found senior staff for companies as far afield as Stanley in the Falkland Islands and in Chicago. Future expansion plans include opening a new office abroad, possibly in Central Europe.

Director David Hunt said: “The feedback we get from our clients is that we give a much more personal service than other consultancies. One person deals with your account, it is not farmed out, you always know who to talk to and how things are going. We also focus a great deal not just on finding people with the right skills and qualifications, but also on whether they will fit the culture and personality of the business – a vital ingredient in staff retention.

“Finding the right senior staff is a very difficult and time-consuming job. It can take months to locate the correct person, causing severe problems within a business or organisation. We aim to make it less of an ordeal by using our experience, contacts and skills on our client’s behalf.”

Currently employing three staff and with a turnover of £150,000, within the next three years it is expected that the turnover will increase to around £600,000 and the employee levels increase to five.

MSIF’s Small Firms Fund provided funding of £20,000 for business development, which was matched by Alexander James Ltd. They also offered business support and mentoring.

Alan Birkett, investment manager of MSIF’s Small Firms Fund, said: “Alexander James Executive Search Ltd had already invested in their business and had superior knowledge of their market. We were delighted to support them in their plans to expand even further and take the business to the next level.”
