Mercury Expansion Sees Move to Brand New Southern Gateway
25th April 2006
A Liverpool-based IT company which was set up by a single mother of three after she was made redundant from her job, is expanding with backing from Merseyside Special Investment Fund (MSIF).
Mercury ITC provides a wide range of IT services including website design, data recovery, consultancy services and installation. In addition, the company provides training courses and is also a test centre for the European Computer Driving Licence qualification.
The company was set up by Jane Black and co-director John Harris in 2000 after Jane was made redundant from the Parent School Partnership. The pair ran the business from Jane's house before moving to the current site at Brunswick Dock. The company is now due to move to offices at the brand new Southern Gateway building in Speke as part of its expansion plans.
In addition to running the business Jane has recently been appointed as Chair of the Liverpool ICT Cluster.
Mercury has raised a funding package worth over £20,000 which included a £10,000 loan from MSIF. It is the third time MSIF has backed the business.
Mercury has clients throughout the UK including Fujitsu, the University of Liverpool, Red Architectural and the School of Tropical Medicine.
Director Jane Black said: "The business is at a really exciting stage. We need to strengthen the team so that we can take on new contracts whilst continuing to offer our existing clients a quality service. The money from MSIF has enabled us to relocate to larger premises and buy state-of-the-art equipment which is crucial to grow the business."
Chris Walters, Investment Manager of MSIF's Small Firms Fund said: "We are pleased to be backing Mercury. The company has built up an impressive customer base and has excellent growth potential."
Mercury currently employs seven staff and expects to take on a further 10 over the next three years. Turnover this year was £1/4m and this figure is expected to double over three years.
