Design Duo Raise Finance to Fund Fashion Business

13th April 2006

It's a dilemma all women attending a big social occasion face - what to wear - and how to avoid wearing the same outfit as someone else. But now a new Crosby-based business is on hand to help solve the problem with its unique fashion designs.

Robbo is a design and manufacturing business that sells its own brand of exclusive clothing through the Robbo boutique on Liverpool Road in Crosby. All garments are hand-made, original pieces made from quality fabrics.

The range includes classic day, evening, casual and occasion wear.

Working women and busy mums can also take advantage of Robbo's out of hours personal shopper service.

Clients can book an appointment during the evening where they will receive expert advice from the Robbo team on what to wear and how to wear it.

The business was set up by partners Debbie Roberts and Marci Robinson in February. The pair met when Debbie was a pupil at Southport College where Marci was teaching fashion design.

Robbo has raised a £33,500 finance package to fund the business which included a £16,000 loan from Merseyside Special Investment Fund (MSIF) and the partners' own investment.

Marci Robinson said: "Women are always on the look out for outfits that are a bit different and which will make them stand out from the crowd.

Our clothes are affordable and stylish with a contemporary twist. We design for women who want to make a fashion statement but feel comfortable at the same time."

Debbie Roberts added: "The support from MSIF was crucial to help buy sewing machines and equipment for the manufacturing side of the business."

Chris Walters, Investment Manager of MSIF's Small Firms Fund said: "Robbo have a driven and creative team and it is clear there is a real demand for their stunning but wearable designs. We are delighted to be backing them and wish the business every success."

Prices range from £15 - £500 and most of the garments are stocked sizes 6 - 18.

Robbo currently employs three staff and expects to take on six more over the next three years. Turnover is estimated at £60,000 for next year and it is thought this figure will rise to over £100,000 in three years.
