MSIF Backs Innovative Printing Company
08th January 2008
A company specialising in cutting-edge printing technology has been backed by Merseyside Special Investment Fund (MSIF).
Wirral-based WTP Technics supplies materials and printing services using revolutionary water transfer printing and reflective coating systems. The process is used to decorate plastic, metal, glass and many other surfaces in a range of designs including camouflage, animal prints and wood grain.
The company was set up in September 2007 by German-born entrepreneur, Falk Zimmermann who has secured the sole UK distribution rights for the patented process from a German company.
WTP Technics has raised a £76k funding package which includes a loan from MSIF’s Small Firms Fund and director’s own investment.
Mr Zimmermann said: “I previously lived on Merseyside before moving abroad again but when I decided to set up the WTP Technics I knew this would be the best place to do it. The region has excellent universities and is a hub for creativity and technology which is important for a business like this.
“We have just secured a deal to print the steering wheels for Williams F1 which is a huge contract for us. There has also been significant interest from companies selling and manufacturing luxury goods, airplane parts, display equipment, furniture, car kits, bike and scooter parts, fireplaces and also from artists.
“Up until now this precise process was only available to larger manufacturers and companies but now, through us, smaller companies can have access to the equipment, training and supplies needed.
“The funding will enable us to market the business and provide the working capital needed to get it off the ground.”
Small Firms Fund investment manager Chris Walters said: “We believe WTP Technics has excellent market potential and we are pleased to be backing such an innovative company.”
Business guru, Gary Millar of CCUK who is working with the company said: “Falk’s passion is evident not only in his products but also in his willingness to help his customers. He is extremely driven and deserves to do very well.”
The company expects to take on at least four staff over the next two years.
