Lee Mitchell and Alexandros Brits have set up Sort Rehearsal Rooms, a state of the art facility in the Baltic Triangle, with the help of a £50,000 investment from MSIF, in the form of two £25,000 Start Up loans.
Sort Rehearsal Rooms is a space for musicians who wish to rehearse, record or store their equipment. The aim of the business is to help musicians make it in the music industry.
Both business owners have musical backgrounds: Lee is a musician and tour manager and Alex is a musician and producer.
Lee and Alex’s vision was to create a space that could facilitate and support local musicians and artists by providing a professional rehearsal space at a price that was accessible to everyone.
They have created 6 purpose built soundproof pods, 5 of which work as rehearsal spaces and 1 pod which functions as a recording studio and teaching space. The building features a flat loading ramp, making moving equipment an ease for the musicians; Sort Rehearsal Rooms are the only studio in Liverpool who offer this functionality.
Liverpool has always had a great arts and music scene, and Sort Rehearsal Rooms provide a platform for this to expand even further.
Sort Rehearsal Rooms are so committed to helping local musicians they have directed their marketing budget towards investment in promoting unsigned bands instead of promoting themselves.
Lee and Alex have already managed to reach over 2 million people without spending anything on their own marketing.
Popular musicians such as Ed Sheeran and Two Door Cinema Club have heard about the plans and have posted about the venture on social media.
Lee Mitchell, founder of Sort Rehearsal Rooms says: “Sort is a great space for musicians to utilise, and we’ve already received a good number of new clients and enquiries in the 7 weeks we’ve been open. It’s great to provide a professional space for these bands and be a part of helping them to achieve everything they’re capable of.
“Without the loan from MSIF we simply wouldn’t have Sort Rehearsal Rooms. We’d reached our limit on our own funding, but MSIF’s belief in us allowed us to create our vision. They were a great help when taking us through the funding process.
“The space we’ve created has been built ready for expansion. In the future we’re planning to build more pods on top of the ones we’ve already created and expand our storage solutions with more cages.”
Steve Hitchen, Investment Manager for MSIF, said: “Lee and Alex have both been great to work with. Their knowledge, involvement and success within the music industry is apparent, and this has led to the creation of a really good business model."
“They’ve introduced a unique product to Liverpool, something very fitting with the ever growing music scene of Liverpool. I look forward to working with them further and following how their business develops over the coming years.”
